Tour de Acoma (Walt Migdal)

I did my first bike race on the Specialized Transition aero/triathlon bicycle in September 2018 at the Tour de Acoma, a 50-mile race through the Acoma and Laguna Pueblo Reservations. I wanted to see how well I could perform in an aero position for the 50-mile race versus riding in the Peloton with my Specialized Roubaix. It was interesting riding at a fairly steady speed while the peloton moved like an accordion with sudden explosive break-aways and bunching. While I was able to keep up with the lead pack through mile 16, they eventually dropped me, showing the advantages of riding and drafting in the Peloton versus the solo rider with aero bars! Overall, not too bad…averaged 21 mph for the race.
